Theodore “Ted” Gomes, 83, of Papa, South Kona, died March 11. Born in Keopu, Kona, he was the owner of Honomalino Wood Mill, a former salesman and office manager for The Gas Company in Kona, spear fisherman, farmer, short stories writer and joke teller. Private service at a later date. Survived by wife, Gwendolyn Gomes of Papa; son, Theodore (Caryn) Gomes of North Dakota; daughters, Maile Gomes Good of Oklahoma, Luana (Alika) Lincoln of Waimea and Moana (Mel) Johansen of Papa; sister, Thomasina Fogliani of San Carlos, Calif.; brothers, Joseph Henry (Linda) Gomes of Belmont, Calif., and Robert (Phoebe) Gomes of Pahala; eight grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren; nieces, nephews and extended family. Matsue Nishiura, 95, of Hilo died April 8 in Hilo. Born in Puna, she was a retired licensed practical nurse for the former Hilo Hospital. Services held. No flowers or koden (monetary gifts).
